Maria Bellissimo-Magrin has been in the industry for around 14 years and after working for other agencies, she wanted to open her own.

Belgrin is all about understanding their clients, their story and their personality, their products, services and market, their values and aspirations. Out of this understanding they create a brand, or revive an existing brand. They give their clients the presence they require in all the places they need to be- online, in print, in the mainstream media and in the social media.

Q. What did you do before you started this business?

I designed in Bahrain and England for agencies including Saatchi & Saatchi.

Q. Did you have any business training before you started?

No, not really.

Q. Describe your business and products/services you offer

Were a creative agency that specialises in design, PR and social media management.

Q. How long have you been running your business?

Five and a half years

Q. How many hours a week do you work in your business?

Around 45 hours

Q. What kind of online and offline marketing do you do and which is working for you?

We sponsor various events, network in business groups, have an active strategy using LinekdIn and also active on Facebook and Twitter. I’d have to say LinkedIn has the best results.

Q. Do you use social media as part of your marketing?

Yes, we do.

Q. What mistakes have you made in running your business and what lessons have you learnt from those?

Where do I start?! Initially I avoided monitoring our figures and had no understanding around them. This is the worst thing one can do when running a business. As scary as it may be sometimes, you need to know and understand your financial position and whether you’re profitable or not.

Q. How has your website helped you run your business?

Our website is a gateway to our business. It showcases our work and our service offering. Prospective clients often comment in favour of our website when we meet them for the first time. It shows our style and the standard of our work.

Q. What obstacles or challenges are you facing at the moment?

I’d have to say cash flow and staff are key issues at the moment.
