Sam is proud to be part of the happy franchisees of Fantastic Services Group. His team provides first-class cleaning services in the Melbourne area, using the latest cleaning equipment and techniques. His previous experience with public relationship management and his outstanding attention to details helped him develop his small cleaning business into a prosperous company.
Q. Tell me a little bit about yourself
I am originally from Jordan where I was a public relation manager. It’s a big jump from where I used to be to what I am doing today. I have been in Australia for 5 and a half years and have never worked in the cleaning industry before.
Q. Describe your business and products/services you offer
I own a small cleaning business as a franchisee of the Fantastic Services Group company. Since I have only one team (four cleaners), I am pretty close with my employees and it’s easy to organise and supervise them. Having previously owned a car detailing business, I know how important it is to pay special attention to detail.
Q. Is being a franchise owner any different from starting up your own business?
Being a franchise business owner isn’t any different from running your own company. Best part is I do own the business, but the franchising agency helps me run and develop it by providing me and my team with all the resources needed to become successful. The great training my team receives, along with the many other advantages, such as guaranteed minimum income, supplier discounts, prearranged work schedule, access to specialised customer-care software and many others help us grow faster by focusing on our work quality.
Q. How long have you been in business?
Two years ago, I was working as a cleaning contractor. My experience in the field of professional cleaning, my perfectionism and my passion for working with people lead me to the idea of starting my own cleaning company. Today, I am proud to be the owner of a small, prosperous cleaning agency.
Q. What made you decide to start this business?
Having walked the thorny path of starting up a small business, I knew the pros and cons by heart. This time I needed a bit more security… and someone to teach me. You can find both things with a franchisor. My booking schedule is guaranteed and there is always someone to help. What won me over was the team, I feel incredibly comfortable working with them. One of my favourite things about Fantastic Services Group is that they are hands-on with their franchisees. They supervise us closely, point out our mistakes and reward those who perform well.
Q. How many hours a week do you work in your business?
My work schedule is prearranged and it is different every day, yet the quality of work and our special attention to details guarantees steady growth for my business. And honestly, we don’t count the hours. We just do what we love doing and that is all that counts!
Q. What kind of on-line and offline marketing do you do and which is working for you?
Being part of a franchising company has many perks one of which is being able to take advantage of the experience and knowledge of the Marketing team of Fantastic Services Group. My franchisor takes care of the marketing, letting me have more time to develop my teams and expand my business.
We always strive to give our best and make our customers happy, and to be honest, word of mouth is working really well for us. The special attention we pay to details and our professional manner encourages people to call us again and spread the word about the great work we’ve done cleaning their homes.
Q. What obstacles or challenges are you facing at the moment?
We are doing our best to make our customers happy. This guarantees us no obstacles on our path to success.
Q. Any other comments / points you would like to share about running your business?
I have gone a long way from being a public manager in my homeland, Jordan, through owning a car detailing company to becoming a brand new cleaning business franchisee. Many raise eyebrows when they hear it. Some even ask me why precisely cleaning. I could have taken up the oh-so-popular food franchises or at least try something in a more familiar field. You will be surprised who opts to work in the cleaning industry. No one dreams to become a cleaner. But it’s a job like any other, more importantly – an honest one. Maybe even sometimes, it can be a tough, competitive business. Unless you learn to manage your time and pay attention to the tiniest details, you won’t make it. Your customers have a problem and you are the one to fix it.
But at the end of the day, making your customers happy is the greatest price we can ever get. All the rest comes with it – steady growth, profitability and expansion. You just need to give your heart to what you do!
