8 Myths About Blogging – Debunked

With over 409 million people viewing more than 20 billion pages each month, blogging has become one of the most powerful marketing tools. It’s cost-effective, and you can do it from anywhere! But many people and businesses don’t see the actual value in blogging.

When it comes to blogging, there are a lot of misconceptions. Some people think that you need to post every day or that you need to spend hundreds of dollars on advertisements before you make any money.

However, the truth is, you don’t need to be a professional writer to start a blog, and the success of your blog won’t depend on how much time you can devote each day.

This article will bust some common myths about blogging (like the ones mentioned above) and advise those thinking about starting their blog.

Without further ado, let’s begin.

What to Avoid While Blogging

Blogging is one of the most powerful tools available to any business owner. It can bring in new customers, establish your expertise, and boost traffic to your website, all while helping you connect with your readers on a more personal level.

Hence, writing blogs is an effective way to connect with your target audience. But some things should be avoided when blogging to avoid turning off potential readers and having them click away before they read even half of your post.

Therefore, you must know what you should avoid while blogging, so you can focus on creating valuable, engaging content that your readers will love. Here is a list of a few things that you must avoid doing, have a look-

  • Creating user-focused content
  • Choosing uninteresting topics to write a blog
  • Not creating SEO rich content
  • Poor blog writing format
  • Not asking for help when required

Debunking Common Blog Myths

Now that you know what you should avoid while blogging, let’s discuss the myths that have influenced the blogging industry quite a lot. Debunking these myths will help you gain confidence and learn how to write a good blog.

Myth 1: Blogging Doesn’t Do Much.

People don’t understand how important blogging is and how it can turn the tables in their favor. Blogging has the potential to increase the growth and revenue of a business to exponential heights. Take Neil Patel, for example; the blogs on his website are his strength; they help drive more traffic to his website.

Moreover, Forbes has also agreed that ignoring blogging can be a huge mistake.

Myth 2: You Should Focus Only on One Niche.

Most people believe that sticking to one particular niche will help in maintaining consistency. However, this is not always true. If you are starting your blog, you have the independence to write about anything and everything you want. However, if a particular business, say a restaurant, has created a blog, it is plausible that they blog only about food-related stuff.

However, there are brands like Coca-Cola that post blogs from different niches. However, they majorly revolve around their brands, with no niche restriction.

Myth 3: Blogging Needs a Lot of Investment.

Blogging does not need a lot of investment, and with so many options available due to technological advancements, it is possible to start a blog with zero investment.

You must know how to use resources, and you will be ready to get blogging!

Myth 4: You Need to Be a Good Writer.

It is one of the biggest myths ever; you do not need to be a good writer for starting a blog. All you need is to know what you want to write about and what you want to include in it.

There are multiple companies that will write any content you can ask for. Just give the instructions, seal the deal, and you will get the content as soon as you want.

In this way, you can start your blog or a blog for your business without going through any hassle.

Myth 5: Only Long Posts Do Well.

The truth is, only good posts do well. If your article is engaging, precise, and answers what the user is looking for, then the length of the post does not matter.

Make sure that you cover all the points that need to be answered. The best way to do this is to make a persona of your target audience. Think about what doubts you would want to be answered if you came searching for the particular topic.

You must ensure that your blog answers why, how, what, who, etc.

Myth 6: You Need to Be Regular.

You have the liberty to post every day if you have quality content available. However, if you are starting with your blogging journey, it is unnecessary to post every day.

Just ensure that whatever you are posting possesses value. If your content is good, people will read your blogs.

Myth 7: Starting a Blog Is Difficult.

Many believe that starting with blogging is difficult, which is not valid. With a lot of resources available nowadays, it is more than possible. You need to have a vision of why and what you want to post; you can leave the rest on blog writing services and technology.

Myth 8: SEO Is Not Necessary.

It is a myth that SEO is not practical. A properly optimized blog will rank on the first page of the search engine. However, you must know how to write SEO-friendly blog posts for that.

You can enrol in courses available online, or you can read articles on Moz.com to learn about SEO. However, if you don’t have time for all this, you can always outsource your Content marketing work to specialists.

Final Thoughts

Blogging is a great way to build your brand and make money, however it does require a lot of time, effort, and patience.  We’ve debunked eight common myths about blogging and explained how each one is untrue in this article. We hope you found this helpful!
